School Closed

Dear FCS Families,

In response to Governor Cooper’s executive order regarding the closure of K-12 schools, Faith Christian School is transitioning to an online classroom environment for instruction.

Online classroom instruction will go live on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. While the Governor’s order runs through the March 27, 2020 school day, conditions could change causing this time of closure to be extended due to the COVID-19 virus. While we are praying for the shortest time of closure possible, we are also working hard to prepare for contingencies.

Included in an email is an overview of the details and expectations for our online classroom instruction format. It is extremely important that our students and parents take this time of instruction seriously in order to continue the educational services for our children. It is our goal to provide quality instruction to the best of our ability, and to provide our students with as much of a sense of normalcy as possible. Expect instructional activities to be similar to a school day with regard to time commitment. We also recognize that this is a difficult time of transition for our families, and we want to be as helpful as possible. It goes without saying that none of our families or faculty have experienced these conditions before. We encourage all to be patient and gracious with one another. We are in this together.

Please know that we have been hard at work thinking through this transition and planning for weeks. This time of closure is not a vacation for our faculty and should not be perceived as “snow days.” We plan to be faithful to our commitment to our families to provide the best instruction we can. We ask our students to take this time of study seriously. We also ask our students to abide by the CDC guidelines for social distancing.

Regarding Facilities:

Our facilities were open for students from 12pm-4pm Monday, March 16. They will also be open from 8am-4pm Tuesday March 17. Please gather all books and belongings needed to continue learning at home.

There will be NO on-campus activities between March 17 and March 29. This includes classes, tutoring, and team and individual practices. Again, these dates may be extended based on conditions and Government regulations.

Regarding Remote Instruction:

We plan to have our classes “live” on Wednesday March 18, 2020 by 10am. On Tuesday March 17, students will receive instructions regarding how to join their Google classrooms. These instructions may come from the campus principal, the individual teacher, or both. Please see below for guidelines regarding this season of remote instruction. This will also be attached in document form. We will make adjustments to our plan as needed. Again, our goal is to provide quality instruction so that our students’ learning progression is as uninterrupted as possible. We also want our students to have a sense of normalcy and goals to focus on.

In conclusion, thank you for your support during this unprecedented time. We also recognize that this is a difficult time for all of our families and our entire community. We are in this together, and we want to be faithful to help.

As we live in this uncertain time, we must recognize that this has always been true because we live in a fallen world. This is not new. While the world is uncertain and changing, what is unchanging is the goodness of God. If that is ever in doubt, we must remember the cross and the finished work of Jesus Christ crucified, and resurrected. We are his people, and he is with us. Let’s continue to pray, ask for the Spirit’s help, and look to the one who holds tomorrow, as well as today.

With Great Hope in Christ,

Erik W. Harris
